A one day workshop was conducted by Dept. of Allied Health Sciences on Genetic Counseling with the objective to educate people understand the risks of passing on a condition; caring for a child with a genetic condition; inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources; promote informed choices; adaptation to the risk or condition and support in reaching out to relatives who are also at risk.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Sridevi Hegde Senior Consultant, and Head, Department of Medical Genetics, Manipal Hospitals, Bangalore, Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Raina, Vice Chancellor Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Krishnamurthy Jayanna, Dean, Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Sreenivas Murthy, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Dr Soma Chaki, Associate Dean, Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences. 

Guest lectures were delivered by National and International experts in the field with sixty participants from different institutes around the country participating for the event. The workshop enabled participants to:

• Understand the process of genetic counseling
• Get awareness on various fields of genetic counseling
• Get overview of identifying chromosomes
• Learn to draw and analyze the pedigree
