The Department of Biotechnology offers outcome-based programs that are designed to meet the needs and challenges of the industry. The programs emphasize application-based teaching, learning and research by highly experienced and qualified faculty members and provides students with the adequate skills and knowledge to lead the biotechnology industry to new heights.
The three-year undergraduate program (B.Sc (Hons) in Biotechnology) has been thoughtfully designed to bridge the prevalent gap between academia and industry. In addition to the fundamental subjects of biotechnology, the program includes biomathematics, biostatistics, computer programming, and chemical science that lend a multitude of career options for students.
The Department also offers two postgraduate programs, M. Sc. in Biotechnology and M. Sc. in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Efforts are made to provide future-focused subjects and courses that prepare students for a changing tomorrow. Given that translational research and biosimilar products are believed to be the future of biotechnology, the skill-based electives available to students are pharmaceutical biotechnology, synthetic biology, molecular carcinogenesis, drug design and delivery, artificial intelligence and healthcare, downstream processing, upstream processing, etc.
Partnerships with organisations and institutes like Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation (MSMF), HCG-Strand Genomics, and Narayana Health Foundation also open the door to valuable learning and employment opportunities for students. The proximity with the Indian Institute of Science campus contributes to a truly exciting learning and research ambiance.
