World Sight Day 2022


World Sight Day Walkathon event – 10.30 AM to 11.30 AM

Optometry programme of Dept. of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FLAHS), RUAS organised a walkathon on the occasion of World Sight Day on October 21, 2022 at University House, Gnanagangothri campus 

Chief Guest of the event wasDr. Reema Choudhary, Director of Student Affairs, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, the event was flagged off at 10.30am from the university house in the presence of faculties from Allied Health Sciences and staffs of Student Affairs section.

Dr. Reema delivered the inaugural speech and highlighted the importance of vision and need to safeguard the eye sight. The walkathon started with unrevealing the world sight day 2022 poster, followed by placards and posters developed by the students. Eye safety during the festive time of Diwali, eye donation, association of dry eyes, macular diseases with cigarette smoking, clinical profile of diabetic retinopathy, myopia and raising concerns were few of the themes displayed on the placards and posters.

The procession passed through the institutes/​facilities of Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Hotel Management, School of Social Sciences and Ramaiah Medical College. Students shared the importance of vision and the occasion of world sight day celebrations with the bystanders and public met on the way.

World Sight Day event – 2pm to 4pm

This event was graced in the presence Mrs. Ashwini Angadi, an internationally, highly recognized personality working in the domains of visually challenged, advocacy and education. The activities at Belaku Academy, international/​national recognitions and her life story was the essence of Mrs. Angadi’s talk. She challenged the students and research community to develop more cost effective, user friendly gadgets and applications for the daily use of the visually challenged. This event was also graced by the Dean of FLAHS, Dr. Krishnamurthy Jayanna, HOD of Community Dentistry Dr. Pushpanjali K, and faculties from Faculty of Dental Sciences and FLAHS. The event was moderated by the students of Optometry and Athena club of FLAHS with a few cultural programmes. Ms. Madhumitha & Ms. Vidya were the master of ceremonies, Mr. Avinash Prabhu welcomed the guest, Dr. Jayanna shared his thoughts on world sight day importance and Mrs. SriVidya L proposed the vote of thanks. As part of this awareness campaign, 34 eyes were officially pledged for donation by signing the eye donation form.
